Today’s event was attended by staff and students from Nottingham College, alongside representatives from Nottingham City Council and D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).

This landmark addition to Nottingham’s skyline has been designed by Bond Bryan Architects and will be home to up to 2,000 students every year. The ceremony celebrated the completion of the building’s structural frame, with works now moving on at a pace to ensure it is fully operational by September 2020.

The Hub aims to provide high-quality college and community facilities, as well as a Grade A business centre to encourage the formation of new start-ups and better collaboration between students and employers. It will feature a new performing arts space, student retail outlet, café and training restaurant and bar, as well as delivering improved education and skills resources to the wider community.

Occupying an area of disused brownfield land next to the intu Broadmarsh Centre on Canal Street, the site is being completely transformed in a bid to provide a more fitting entrance to the southern part of Nottingham city centre. It is expected to be the first major project under the city’s £250 million Southern Gateway regeneration programme to reach completion.

Anthony Cork, director for Gleeds in Nottingham, said: “It is extremely gratifying to see the last steel take its place within this state-of-the-art building. The City Hub will enable the college to respond directly to the needs of local employers by supplying the skills required for Nottingham’s key growth sectors and students are already benefiting from the hands-on work experience opportunities a project of this scale presents. This is a fantastic facility and I have no doubt that it will be mutually beneficial for both the student body and the local economy long-term.”

Gleeds is currently involved with a number of other schemes in the Southside area on behalf of Nottingham City Council, including the iconic reimagining of Nottingham Castle and Crocus Place, a 100,000ft2 development of Grade A commercial space next to Nottingham train station.
